Inside the Non-Programmer's AI Toolkit: My Process for Co-Creating Strategy

Part 2 of 3 in "Building with AI as a Non-Programmer"

Blog: The Andraluma Compass - By Marco Lam

In the first part of this series, we busted the myth that you need to be a programmer to leverage AI. We established that the new essential skill is not coding, but strategic dialogue, which allows a leader to move from slow, linear planning to a more powerful, probabilistic way of thinking.

That’s the "why." Now, let's get into the "how."

What does a strategic conversation with an AI actually look like? It is not about finding a "magic prompt." It is about following a disciplined, iterative process. Over the course of building Andraluma, I have developed and refined a simple but powerful four-step cycle that I use every day. I call it The Andraluma Insight Loop.

The 4-Step Loop I Use Daily

This cycle is the engine of my partnership with my AI. It’s a structured way to turn raw, intuitive ideas into clear, strategic assets.

Step 1: Absorb This is the phase of open-minded information gathering. It could be a raw idea I have, a question from a client, or a draft of a document. I input this initial information into the AI without judgment, often in the form of a simple, open-ended prompt. For example: "Here's a new blog post idea: is it better to abandon a career that AI might replace?"

Step 2: Reflect The AI's initial output is never the final product. It is a mirror. My next step is to reflect on that output by connecting it to my own deep well of lived experience. Does it feel right? What's missing? What real-world story from my past does this bring to mind? This is the crucial step where human wisdom enters the process.

Step 3: Challenge This is where the real co-creation begins. I take my reflection and use it to challenge the AI's initial output. I provide new, richer context. For example, after the AI gave a generic answer to my question, I challenged it: "Your first idea is too common. Let's reframe this using a specific story: The Mainframe Analogy. What if the lesson is to go deeper into your field, not run away?"

Step 4: Synthesise Through a back-and-forth dialogue of refining, questioning, and adding more context, a new, more powerful insight emerges. In the case of the Mainframe Analogy, we synthesized a new principle: "Focus on the job's core goal, not its mechanical tasks." This new insight, born from the synthesis of my experience and the AI's structural abilities, becomes the foundation of the final, high-quality asset.

This "Absorb -> Reflect -> Challenge -> Synthesise" loop is the practical "how-to" for any non-programmer to have a strategic dialogue with AI. But what are the bigger, more profound lessons from this new way of working?

In the final part of this series, I'll share the most important insights my AI partner has taught me about the future of human expertise.
